Weekend Wrap-up:
Saturday was a good day for College Station CrossFit. For one we got our butts kicked by some great workouts, and two we had some awesome results both in the individual competition and as a team.
Charlie performed well, which is becoming a habit for him and placed 9th of 49 athletes in the individual competition. He had some excellent showings in the wods.
1st wod- 10th
2nd wod- 12th
3rd wod- 11th
Charlie put out some awesome efforts in all 3 workouts and as you can see by his places he is becoming a very well rounded athlete. The first workout was no problem for him. He plowed through the thrusters and sandbag run and finished in the top of his heat. For the second workout he nailed the row and the shoot-throughs gave him some trouble but he still finished in the top of the heat. On the final wod he began feeling the day of effort and lost a few seconds on re-grips and adjustments with the barbell but he didn't miss reps and executed a great 3rd wod. He again finished in the top 3-4 of his heat and wrapped up his day. Now he just has to improve at everything, like the rest of us.
The Team also had a great weekend. We finally put forth an effort the athletes and members at CSCF are capable of. The team of Caroline, Lindsey, marcos, Will, Zach, and Daren got 7th overall out of 22 teams this weekend.
The first workout, thrusters, was rough. Everyone cycled through their reps quickly and efficiently with very few missed reps. We didn't quite get our goal rep wise, but we still finished with a solid 285 reps, in 9th place. The second wod was changed last minute due to planning errors by the staff putting on the competition. It went from a 1RM Deadlift to a 1RM Squat Clean. I think the weights were as follows but i may have shorted somebody 10 lbs and given it to someone else. Caroline landed a lift of 155, Will got 195, Marcos landed 205, and Zach got 285 in the last seconds of the event. We finished in 13th in that event, a weakness of ours, but we managed to hang in there. The last event was a shootout. All of the big teams were in the final heat with us and we threw down with them. We moved quickly through the Wall-balls, KB swings, and Burpees and then got on the rower right behind the other top teams. We battled through 2000m, with Zach doing double duty and finished in 3rd place, 2 seconds behind 2nd place Crossfit Dallas Central, and 20 seconds behind the winning team. No teams in the first heat finished close to us. We needed a great time on the last workout and we got it. None of us had anything left after it was over and it was a great feeling to challenge the big boxes during a workout like that.
The best part about this weekend was the support we had. Its great to have members come out and watch and support the competing athletes, and support what we do at CSCF. Our next Crossfit comp will be in october in houston so keep an eye out and if you don't want to compete we need you out there yelling and supporting our athletes.
